Gradishar 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Representatives from the Document Automation and Production Service visited Fairchild the week of June 25 to assist in determining output volumes, usage trends, network printing needs, desktop printing, scanning, faxing and stand-alone copying requirements. DAPS is an element of the Defense Logistics Agency that provides document automation and output to the Department of Defense through equipment management solutions, electronic document management, electronic conversion, retrieval, output and distribution of both digital and hardcopy information. Bruce Lyman, DAPS customer account manager, and Larry Marrow, DAPS equipment management service program manager, went to various Fairchild units and tenant units to evaluate current resources to implement a new digital multi-functional photocopier contract. "The old contract terminates at the end of October," said Mr. Marrow. "Our intention is to start installing the new machines in late September or early October." In executing this new contract, a great deal of savings will be seen in areas of printing supplies and other similar areas. "The projected savings should be from $85,000 to $200,000 over the life of the contract," said Mr. Lyman. "There should also be increased capabilities, increased functionality, and direct and indirect savings" While at Fairchild, Mr. Lyman and Mr. Marrow literally made a walk through of the entire base, through every building and every office looking for improvements for each specific area. "We provide the information to the offices as we open the door to improvements," said Mr. Lyman. The DAPS representatives have been working with the 92nd Communications Squadron, as they have provided information and recommendations to the unit on improving the base copying abilities. "I see this as a great improvement," said Master Sgt. Robert Altmaier, 92nd CES base copier manager and DAPS liaison. "It will save time, money and effort."
