Briefs

Sharp Looker judges needed
The Fairchild 56 Club is looking for volunteer Sharp Looker judges. Call Tech. Sgt. Melva Stith at 247-5823, x5120 to volunteer.

Volunteer sexual assault victim advocates needed
The next training session for volunteer sexual assault victim advocates is Nov. 13, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Post Office (lower level.) Volunteers provide crisis intervention, referral and ongoing support for sexual assault victims. For information or to sign up for training, call 247-444 or email Fairchild SAPR.

Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7-13. The theme of this year's campaign is "Plan your escape plan." Fairchild's Fire Department will host a Fire Station open house Oct. 13, 9 - 11 a.m.; a vehicle display at the BX Oct. 7 - 9, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., and Oct. 10 - 11, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.; and an elementary school poster contest.

Rambo Gate procedure change
Starting Oct. 9 at 6 a.m., personally-owned vehicles will not be allowed entry through Rambo Gate. All POVs must enter through the Fairchild Main Gate after this time.

Woodworking classes to begin soon
The next session of woodworking classes is set to begin soon. Wood I, which includes learning the basics and building a nightstand, begins Oct. 3. The cost is $80. Wood II, which includes expanding those skills and building a dresser, begins Oct. 4. Wood III, which allows you to get creative and pick your own project, begins Oct. 11. The cost for Wood II and III is $99. Contact the Wood Craft Center for more details at 247-5189.

Air Force Ball photos available for pickup
Air Force Ball attendees who ordered professional photos can pick them up at the Deel Community Center, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays. Photos are located in front of the Director's office. Please pick them up as soon as possible.

Paintball closure
Oct. 6 is the final day of the Sport Range Paintball Course season. The range will keep course obstacles in place for squadron or base organizations wishing to use the facility for morale-support activities. For information call Rick Gronkowski at 247-5973.

Palace Chase
An optional Palace Chase briefing will be held Oct. 11, 1 p.m. at the Military Personnel Flight conference room, bldg. 2245, Room 227A. The briefing is open to all ranks.
Palace chase is an early-release program which allows active-duty personnel to transfer to the Air Force Reserve before their established date of separation.

Book swap
The Deel Community Center holds a book swap 9 a.m. - noon and a story hour 10-11 a.m. every Monday the center is open. Volunteers are needed to read during story hour. For information or to volunteer call Tad Miles at 247-2619.

Masters Swim Team
The Aquatics Center is starting a Masters Swim Team designed for adults preparing for triathlons or wishing to compete in swim meets. If you are interested contact the pool at 247-2242 or e-mail the director at damian.smith@fairchild.af.mil.

CDC Part Day program
The Child Development Center is offering a Part Day Program for children ages 24-36 months. There are two, three and five-day program options. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Fees are based on total family income. Registration for the program is on a first-come first-serve basis. Contact the CDC at 247-2403 for information.

Pass and Registration to move
The 92nd Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration Section is now located in the newly renovated Bldg 4325 at 100 West Poplar St. All pass and registration functions involving identification cards issued by security forces, restricted area badges, guest lists, and contractor identification will be conducted out of the Bldg 4325. Operating hours for the new facility are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays. Visitor passes and vehicle registration will continue to take place at the Entry Screening Facility located outside of the Main Gate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

TRICARE Town Hall meeting
There will be a TRICARE Town Hall meeting Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. at Club Fairchild. Topics will include TRICARE for Life, mail order pharmacy, emergency care versus emergency care, specialty referral process, access to care standards, after-hour and out-of-area are, medical claims, and question and answer time. Parents Night Out/Deployed Give Parents a Break
Starting in October, Deployed Give Parents a Break will be held in conjunction with Parents Night Out, the third Friday night of each month. Make reservations for either the Parents Night Out or Deployed Give Parents a Break to be held Oct. 19 from 6:30 -11:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per child and payments are required in advance. Call the CDC at 247-2403 or the Youth Center at 247-5601.

Give Parents a Break
Give Parents a Break will be held Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. Referrals are made by the Airmen and Family Readiness Center, Chaplains office, unit First Sergeant, commanders, CDC director and Life Skills. Call the CDC at 247- 2403 or the Youth Center at 247-5601 for additional details.

Career Fair
Greater Spokane, Inc. is hosting a career fair Oct. 16, noon - 7 p.m., at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. Exhibitors will include firms from healthcare, professional services, engineering, aerospace, manufacturing and education. For information call 459-4117.

Base Security and Policy Review
In accordance with Public Affairs regulation if you are planning to represent Fairchild in the community on behalf of the Air Force, Public Affairs can assist you in developing talking points and will review your speech and/or presentation.

USAF Band to visit Spokane
The U. S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform at Ferris High School in Spokane Oct. 29 (time to be determined.) Admission is free and open to the public.

Undergraduate Flying Training
The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Applicants must send the completed application postmarked by Nov. 26 to:

Applicants are responsible for advising commanders and supervisors providing AF Form 215 comments of the application deadline. Applications with incomplete or missing data may not be processed. All applicants need to complete the Air Force Officer Qualification Test. In addition, pilot applicants must complete the Test of Basic Aviation Skills. Education Briefs

Community Colleges of Spokane
Term III classes at the Community Colleges of Spokane start Oct. 15. The school offers general education, computer and math classes. For information or to schedule an advising appointment, call 533-8937. Web registration is not available this term; students can register at the education center, Suite 120, or at the SFCC campus.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Degree and AMT Programs
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Spokane Campus offers an AMT Type 65 certificate of completion program in preparation for the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license exam. For those seeking a degree, up to 36 semester hours of advance standing credit may be applied towards the Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics degree. Additionally, other undergraduate and graduate degree programs in aviation aerospace are available and can be completed in class or online.

Park University
- Onsite and Internet classes for Fall II (Term II) begin Oct. 22. Registration is in progress for online courses and onsite classes. Register early for Internet courses. For information go to www.park.edu/fair or contact the Park University Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 or fair@ park.edu.

- Park University seniors and exceptional juniors are invited to apply for Pinnacle (the Non-Traditional Honor Society) Membership. Completed applications are due by Oct. 12. Applications and standards for membership are available. For information contact the Park University Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020.

- The Park University Fairchild Campus Center offers the Writing Competency Test Oct. 16, 23 and 30; Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27; and Dec. 4. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement.
WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after the test date. The requirement will not be waived; failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the test.

- All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host and home institution registrars, and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed, without exception. Students who want a consortium/visiting student agreement to be processed need to start their paperwork early. Students must also ensure the host institution registrar completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. Call the Fairchild Campus Center at 244-2020 for information.

- Park University students receiving Pell Grants or student loans should be aware that the process of dropping a class may change eligibility. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Before dropping classes, check with Student Financial Services to determine if your loan or grant eligibility will be affected. For information call 244-2020.

Southern Illinois University
Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format bachelor of science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule (one to two weekends per month.) No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Classes begin Jan. 12.
