Note to overseas returnees Published Jan. 8, 2008 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- For those returning from overseas, be aware of notices from fraudulent sources and addresses in regards to the Currency Conversion Fee Settlement that involves credit card use and currency conversions overseas. The Better Business Bureau has been inundated with calls questioning reliability of CCF Settlement notices. Those inquiring about the settlement and needing to obtain refunds have reason to be skeptical since it requires personal information. "This case involved Visa, Mastercard & Diners Club and is related to charges imposed by the credit card companies for currency exchanges. A settlement of the case was reached and the only authorized settlement administrator (U.S. District Court Settlement Administrator) is located in Philadelphia," according to a press release from the BBB news release. Consumers may keep trying the toll free number for information, but should also know the web site, www.ccfsettlement.com, is the only source for reliable information. Also, the only legitimate place to send a claim is to: U.S. District Court Settlement PO Box 290 Philadelphia, PA 19105-0290. The most important points for consumers to know about this mailing are: 1) The mailing is a legitimate, court-approved mailing. You can know it is legitimate if the address and web site in the mailing are the same as mentioned in this educational release. If you get a mailing with a different web site address or mailing address, contact your BBB as well as the official settlement administrator listed below and report it. 2) If you receive an e-mail with a link, be careful. 3) It is important for consumers who respond to the mailing to know that scammers may try to take advantage of official mailings and send "look alike" mailings or e-mail notices that link to bogus websites. To be sure you are responding to the legitimate mailing about this settlement, check to be sure: a) If responding online, be sure you are at the correct website, www.ccfsettlement.com , and that the "https" (secure, encrypted website indicator) shows in their browser address window before clicking to submit personal information about the claim; and, b) If responding by mail, respond only to U.S. District Court Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 290, Philadelphia, PA 19105-0290 If you want to bring your own legal action, you can "opt out" of the settlement. But, please note, these cases take a lot of money, time and resources.
