Highlighted Events: June 28-29: Spokane Hoopfest '08 More than 3,000 volunteers are needed to make the Hoopfest tournament a success and they are now taking names. There are numerous opportunities at Hoopfest; the most crucial volunteer is the Hoopfest Court Monitor. Box 599, Spokane, WA 99210, or FAX to: (509) 624-0868 Upcoming Events May 6 - 13 May 7: Sprint Racing Experience The Sprint Racing Experience trailer is coming to Fairchild May 7 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. The 53-foot trailer includes four full-motion single seated NASCAR simulators that give you a realistic experience of being a NASCAR driver. Test your NASCAR driving skills on Lowe's Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Daytona International Speedway. The event is free and will be held at the Deel Community Center. May 11: Mother's Day Brunch A Mother's Day brunch will be held at Club Fairchild May 11 at 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will be two drawings for special Mother's Day baskets. Members pay just $17.95, non-members pay $20.95, children 5 - 10 years old will be charged $7.50 and children 4 and under eat free. For more information call 244-3622. May 11: Mother's Day Bowl Come bowling at the Funspot on Mother's Day May 11 from 1 - 7 p.m. Mothers bowl free. For more information call 247-2422. May 12 - 16: National Bike to Work Week Members of Fairchild are encouraged to bicycle to work with groups of friends and co-workers during National Bike to Work Week May 12 - 16. A prize drawing will be offered to participating members for every day that they ride their bicycle to work. Prizes will include a CamelBak Mule 100 ounce hydration pack valued at $85, a portable tire pump and a bicycle multi tool. Entries must be received by May 16. Headquarters Road and parking lot closure Headquarters Road and the parking lot behind the Wing Headquarters building are closed for construction. Parking is available at the old parade grounds on Bong Street. Access to the Headquarters Bldg. during construction will be the front and side doors. Upon completion of the project in late July, Headquarters Road will no longer connect to Mitchell Drive; it will only be used to access the new parking lot behind Wing HQ from SAC Blvd. Contact Mike Harper, 247-3108, if you have any questions. Public Health walk-in hours for pre-deployers In an effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pre-deployment medical process, Public Health has established walk-in hours for medical processing of pre-deployers every Monday through Thursday from 7:30 - 11 a.m. Customers will continue to be seen outside of these hours Monday through Friday by appointment only. Appointments can be made in person or by calling 247-8486. Thrift Shop accepting consignments and donations The Thrift Shop is currently accepting consignments and donations for spring and summer clothing. Thrift Shop hours are: Mondays 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Call the Thrift Shop, 247-5913, for more information. "Airman: The Book 2008" available The Public Affairs office received a mass mailing of "Airman: The Book 2008." The magazine is available to the base populace for pickup and includes valuable information about the different Air Force commands, aircraft and weapons systems, career fields, pay charts, awards and decorations, etc. To pick up the free magazine, stop by the Public Affairs office, located on the second floor of the White House (Wing Headquarters Bldg.).
