Diamond Sharp Awards are a way for first sergeants to recognize their troops who consistently go above and beyond in their Air Force duties and off-duty lives.

Senior Airman Fernando Brome, 92nd Maintenance Operations Squadron, is one of those troops.

Airman Brome's duties include maintenance management analysis and database management. His job is to present real-time data on the health of the fleet to senior leadership, while working with any issues maintainers have with the database.

"I believe I earned this award due to the fact that the shop had a period where our two most knowledgeable staff sergeants were out of the shop," Airman Brome said. "One was deployed, one was in upgrade training, and we needed someone to step up and fill some big shoes by giving briefings to leadership, training our new Airmen and doing whatever needed to be done before leaving for the day. All of this was while also working night shift Unit Control Center for the squadron during exercises."

Although he stepped up to help lead the office, Airman Brome says he was surprised he won the award.

"It felt good to find out I won," he said. "I actually thought my shop was joking with me when I came in for my shift and realized my name had been submitted for the award. But then a week later I received the email saying 'congratulations to the following winners...' and my name was on the list."
