A look at Fairchild History
FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash.–A very unique B-52D Stratofortress rests at Fairchild’s Air Park here July 31. This particular B-52 began its life here in 1957 through 1961, returned in 1968 through 1970, and was finally laid to rest October 1983 when the D model was decommissioned. The lawn-laid B-52 was the first of two Stratofortress’ to shoot down an enemy MiG fighter during the Vietnam War; the other B-52 is located at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
