AFSF notified of first place AF award

  • Published
Airman and Family Services Flight has received notification of a first place win in the Air Force-wide Coming Together Around Military Families contest.

Installations were asked to develop creative educational and awareness programs for parents. Fairchild hosted a Coming Together Around Fairchild Families event in April with more than two dozen on and off-base help agencies and scouting-type organizations that participated.

The goal was to help military families develop skills and resources to cope with the military lifestyle, particularly during deployment and relocation. Part of coping is to build resilience and these agencies offer resources, skills and networks to help individuals and families build that.

One reason that Fairchild's CTAFF program was selected as the winner was because of the number and variety agencies involved. As the winner, the AFSF received $3000, which was used to enhance the Family Oasis at the Deel Community Center, and to purchase materials for future CTAFF events.

Here is a sampling of the comments on the evaluations from the April event:
· Appreciated all the information and the knowledge that others care while my husband is away.
· Lots of activities and information; wish I had come earlier, as I ran out of time to do everything.
· Hold another one! It was awesome! (age 11).
· I thought it was cool how we could make things for my dad, who I can't see for 4 months (age 10).
· I like to help people who help me. (age 10).
· Great stuff; happy everything was in one place at one time.
· The event was great; there is so much I didn't know was available to Air Force families.
· I received some great information; I didn't know all of this information was available.
· Just having someone to listen and know what a family goes through is wonderful - thanks for all you do.
· I'm sure after I read all the information I received today, I should hopefully be able to survive better than I have been.
· We enjoyed the kindness and doing something with husband/Daddy in mind. I think he will love the idea of us spending time as a family for him when he gets the selected items/projects/pillowcases, etc. It took us out of the loneliness for a few hours.

The Airman and Family Services Flight has decided to make this an annual event, and hope that all members of Team Fairchild will attend next year's CTAFF April 17, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Deel.
