This Week in Fairchild History, 19 - 25 Feb Published Feb. 19, 2010 By Dan Simmons 92nd Air Refueling Wing Historian FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Feb. 21, 1958: The KC-135 Stratotanker began to replace the KB-29s at Fairchild. The conversion concluded on Sept. 11, 1958. Feb. 19, 1999: The first personnel and aircraft from the 92nd ARW deployed in support of Operation ALLIED FORCE, the mission to stop the Serb offensive in Kosovo. Feb. 22, 2006: The 2nd Support Squadron (2 SS), an associate unit on Fairchild since 1994, held an inactivation ceremony on base.
