Stannard 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Fairchild celebrates the grand opening a new community center July 16 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the NCO Capehart neighborhood across the street from the dental clinic. The grand opening offers activities, tours, food and door prizes, said Georgia Allen, activities coordinator. The community center not only has a lot to offer at the grand opening, but year-round. The community center has many amenities for the base populace. It houses a computer room with two computers and wireless internet; a game room with a foosball table, ping pong table and board games; a workout room with an elliptical, bike, treadmills, free weights and yoga equipment; a full kitchen where cooking classes will be held; a play room with a TV, BluRay player, toys and porta-cribs; and two multipurpose rooms, which can be made into one large room, with two 42-inch TVs and Nintendo Wiis, said Debbie Marcotte, community manager. It also has a conference room, which is ideal for organization and club meetings, Ms. Marcotte said. "There is also a barbecue area, so if people want hold squadron barbecues they can do them here," Ms. Marcotte said. Classes will also be offered at the center. "We team up with base organizations like the airman and family readiness center to teach classes on the environment, safety, community, physical, social, educational, wellness and finance," Ms. Marcotte said. Cooking classes will also be offered in the kitchen, Ms. Marcotte said.
