STA proposes ending bus service on base Published Dec. 8, 2010 By Staff Sgt. J.G. Buzanowski 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The Spokane Transit Authority is soliciting feedback for a proposed change that would end bus service on Fairchild in September 2011. Under the change, bus service would end at the visitor center. Because buses would no longer drive on base, anyone who uses the specialized handicap vans would also have to find an alternative means of transportation on to the base. "Paratransit vans can only service within approximately one-quarter mile of a bus stop," said Kristin Nester, 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron. The service has seen a significant decrease in revenue, thus prompting the route change, according to the STA Website. For more information, visit www.spokanetransit.com or call (509) 343-1653.
