USAF Band of the Golden West is performing on Fairchild Tuesday

The United States Band of the Golden West from Travis Air Force Base, Calif. will be bringing some of its musical talents to Fairchild next week. They will be performing holiday music with their four-member Holiday Saxophone Quartet.

The USAF Band of the Golden West supports the global Air Force mission in war and peace by fostering national heritage and by providing professional musical products and services for official military, recruiting and community relations events. They provide military and patriotic music for official military and government activities such as ceremonies, formations and parades along the West Coast. They also provide an essential element in maintaining troop morale, retention and recruiting efforts.

Members of the band enjoy performing around the West Coast, especially during the holidays.

"We enjoy the holiday season in particular. Our Saxophone Quartet performs every holiday season for thousands of Department of Defense, military and civilian personnel," said Tech. Sgt. Jim Butler, NCO-in-charge of the group. "Our group performs a variety of holiday favorites including best-loved music done traditionally, or sometimes 'jazzed up.' We usually get a very good response to our music from our audiences."

The USAF Band of the Golden West is made up of more than just the Saxophone Quartet.They have a concert band that is comprised of nearly 40 musicians and is the largest performing ensemble within the USAF Band of the Golden West. They perform a wide variety of music that includes standard concert band/wind ensemble literature, orchestral transcriptions, military marches, jazz and pop arrangements and Broadway standards.

Mobility is an upbeat group of talented musicians brings rock, jazz and blues favorites, new and old. Mobility consists of Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, and Vocals -- a perfect combination to bring people to their feet with a smile. Their ceremonial marching band participates in official military ceremonies, military and civilian parades and patriotic events for the general public. It's stirring renditions of military and patriotic music, as well as traditional marches, complements its impressive precision marching style.
The golden west winds are the resident woodwind quintet of the USAF Band of the Golden West. This group of highly trained musicians has delighted numerous concert audiences throughout the Western United States.

The Travis Brass is the resident brass group. Its wide-ranging programs, spanning musical history from medieval times to patriotic military presentations
The Commanders, a newly-revived ensemble carries on the American musical tradition of the great big bands, yet offers a lot more than the big band sounds. This energetic group of highly-trained professional musicians, formed from about a dozen Airmen, delivers the full gamut of jazz music - traditional jazz, cool, bop, swing, Broadway favorites, popular tunes, Latino rhythms and patriotic music.The band brings a little character during the holiday seasons.

"We almost always perform in Airman Battle Uniforms and wear bright red Santa hats," Sergeant Butler said. "We make a splash wherever we go, whether performing in the wing commander's building, on TV or radio, for a school assembly or for veterans."

While they are in the Spokane area on Monday, they will showcase their talents to media outlets, Frank's Diner, the Spokane VA Medical Center, Rockwood Retirement Community

Center and the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
On Tuesday, they will be performing around Fairchild AFB at these places and times:

8:45 a.m. - Child Development Center

9:35 a.m. - Base Exchange

10:30 a.m. - 92nd Air Refuling Wing Headquarters

11:15 a.m - Michael Anderson Elementary School

11:55 a.m. - Warrior Dining Facility

1:15 p.m. - Medical Clinic Pharmacy

2:15 p.m. - 92nd ARW Maintenace Group

3:20 p.m. - Youth Center
