Master Sgt. Carnella Brown from the 92nd Comptroller Squadron was named the Air Mobility Command Financial Management noncommissioned officer of the year Dec. 8.

"Sergeant Brown is a go-getter," said Senior Master Sgt. Shenita Meriwether, 92nd CPTS superintendent. "I can give her a project and not worry about it--period. She will get it done. She has the technical skills, motivation and initiative to just go for it and do above and beyond what you're asking for."

Sergeant Brown holds a lot of responsibility within her unit as the quality assurance, training and alternate deployment manager.

"Normally people don't have all of these duties, but she is excellent with her time management, which is one of the most important skills a leader aspires to have," Sergeant Meriwether said.

As the quality assurance manager, she makes sure the squadron is adhering to the regulations and that things are being done correctly and in accordance to Air Force Instructions and checklists.

"One of the reasons she was chosen for this job was because of her board financial expertise, and her ability to prioritize and manage her time," Sergeant Meriwether said. "There were a lot of holes in the quality assurance program, and she came in and fixed that by building databases and implementing excellent follow-up procedures to clear up discrepancies."

As the unit training manager, she makes sure the unit members are qualified and up-to-date on training. In addition, she overseas training and makes sure everyone in the unit is proficient. She also works with supervisors to ensure they have the proper skills to conduct the training.

"When it comes to being the unit training manager, I enjoy the constant interaction with the troops in upgrade training," Sergeant Brown said. "You're constantly working with them to make sure they're getting their career development courses and on-the-job training done."

"I had to take over the defense travel system within a month and that was right around the time of the compliance inspection," added Airman 1st Class Donnorrious Briscoe, financial management technician. "It generally takes six months to learn that system and I only had a month to learn it. She really helped me out a lot by getting everything together to ensure I was ready."

As the unit deployment manager, it's her job to ensure the unit's Airmen and cargo are ready for deployment.

Her organizational skills are a big part of winning this award and attributed to her successfully working with others to accomplish her three duties, Sergeant Meriwether said.

"I am so happy we have Sergeant Brown," Sergeant Meriwether said. "As a superintendent I am blessed- It makes my life a lot easier around here to know that I can trust her with any task."
