Deputy chief of chaplains visits Fairchild for prayer luncheon Published March 8, 2011 By Staff Sgt. J.G. Buzanowski 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE, Wash. -- As Team Fairchild's part in the country's National Day of Prayer celebration, the Fairchild chapel staff hosted the Air Force deputy chief of chaplains during a luncheon at the Deel Community Center March 4. Chaplain (Brig. Gen.) David Cyr was the guest speaker at the event and spoke about the importance of spirituality and the universal need for connections in life. The chaplain, who recently visited with Airmen in the Republic of Korea, said no matter where he goes, while the names and faces change, the issues Airmen face are the same. "There are plenty of uncertainties in the world today, whether it's the current economics crisis or deploying again and again," the chaplain said. "That's why we have our chaplain teams - to help individuals through the storms of their lives." Chaplain Cyr stressed the importance of spiritual strength as one of the four pillars of Comprehensive Airman Fitness -- the idea that Airmen and their families can maintain balance in their lives if they stay focused on physical, social, mental and spiritual well being. "We can go to the gym and get physically stronger, but we'd be lopsided if we didn't also build up the spiritual muscle," Chaplain Cyr said. "It's critical to total wellness and for the self to be healthy and whole." More than 150 people attended the luncheon.
