The 92nd Air Refueling Wing held its first-ever disease containment plan exercise Aug. 16 - 18. The scenario that was tested contained a mass-disease outbreak.

With a combination of the wing's exercise planners, inspectors, the exercise evaluation team and the medical group - the wing had a chance to show how much they knew when tested in a field exercise of this kind.

The purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the ability to respond to a public health emergency by exercising the mass prophylaxis, testing the ability to stand up the point of distribution and employing medical counter measures.

Inspectors inspected the entire wing by making sure the wing, as a whole, could accommodate all the requirements inside the DCP.

"We closely examined every scenario the units had to complete -- such as the medical group taking care of personnel by setting up their point of distribution stations and monitoring them through the night, and the units putting together couriers to go get medication from the medical squadron," said Brian Baldwin, 92nd ARW exercise planner.

The Inspector General reviewed the medical group on their DCP plan during the exercise. The plan was benchmarked by the IG and was one of the best they'd seen. Air Mobility Command wanted to observe this exercise, but Fairchild exercise planners didn't want any distractions since this was their first DCP exercise.

"I will definitely love for AMC to come out to the next exercise," said Tech. Sgt. Katie Stoner, 92nd ARW exercise planner. "We still have room for improvement, and who knows -- the next exercise could be even better."

The wing actually completed two exercises during the DCP exercise.

"The DCP also incorporated a lot of the anti-terrorism force protection measures going through the Force Protection Conditions up to DELTA and then back down to ALPHA," said Master Sgt. James Lajeunesse, 92nd ARW superintendent of wing inspections. "So, we're able to knock out two exercises with one overall exercise."

Baldwin says the wing should be proud of the way they handled readiness during the exercise.

"Everyone was ready at any given time, as they should be. First- term Airmen were on the go completing tasks, and noncommissioned officers in charge were being effective leaders. This exercise as a whole was a huge success."
