Fairchild pays respect, honors heroes during Police Week Published May 23, 2012 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Team Fairchild, and more importantly, the 92nd Security Forces Squadron, paid tribute to their comrades who have fallen in the line of duty during National Police Week here the week of May 15. National Police Week occurs each year in recognition of the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962 and signed into effect by President John F. Kennedy, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Police week is meant to pay respect to first responders and build moral and camaraderie. At Fairchild, security forces Airmen held a memorial service and retreat ceremony May 15 to kick off the week's activities. Other activities included a "Battle of the Badges" competition between the firefighters and security forces which featured a sharpshooters contest to a hose pull.
