  • 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs

Name: Tech. Sgt. Daniel Knapp

Unit: 92nd Maintenance Squadron

Duty Title: Aircraft Metals Technology Craftsman

Hometown: Libby, Mont.

What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild AFB? Manufacture parts from solid metals and welding of all kinds.

What do you enjoy your job? There is nothing that we cannot make. We also do a lot of R&D and engineering with Lockheed, Boeing and Depot engineers.

Why did you choose to serve in the military? To try something other than just being the status quo in Libby and see what the world had to offer. Also I never would have met my beautiful wife and had our little man.

Family: My wife, Karla Knapp, and son, Landon Walker Knapp

Time in military: 9 years

Greatest accomplishment: It's hard to decide which one is the best, but I was awarded $10,000 from the Air Force IDEA program for designing tools, tech data and repairs to a fleet wide condition that grounded the entire B-52 fleet.

Goals you want to achieve or meet while at the Fairchild AFB: Buy a house, watch my son grow, have another baby and open my own machine shop.

Hobbies: Everything outdoors including hunting, fishing, cruising the lake, snowmobiling and motorcycles.

Your best habit: Never giving up.

Favorite Quote: "Hold my beer and watch this."

Favorite movies: Tombstone and Transformers

Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her: My father and grandfathers on both sides because they all taught me the importance of family, the work ethic I have and what it means to be a responsible man. That seems to be lost with today's children and adults. I would say I'm "Old School" on many things.

If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why: My grandpa Knapp. He lived in Southern Illinois and I didn't get to see him as much as I would have liked before he passed. He was a man of many hats and accomplished so much that it's hard to comprehend.
