Winter is now here and outdoor recreation has the tools and equipment needed to take advantage of all the activities the Inland Northwest has to offer.

Fairchild's outdoor recreation center has a wide variety of equipment available including skis, snowboards and sleds.

Outdoor recreation also sells ski passes to Lookout Pass, Mt. Spokane, 49 Degrees North and Silver Mountain. Purchasing a pass from here has the benefits of being tax free with a military discount.

"We offer top-of-the-line equipment, inexpensive for military members," said Mike Johnson clear lake manager.

Earlier this year the Fairchild ODR center received the Air Mobility Command Outdoor Recreation Program of the Year Award.

"It was great to win this award," added Johnson."We all worked really hard this past year providing outdoor equipment for the military. It is nice to be recognized for this."

The staff members at outdoor recreation are experts on all of the equipment they offer, ensuring equipment is properly installed and set up the right way to avoid injury when used by customers.

"We have certified professionals who install and issue the equipment," said Samantha Lemke, an outdoor recreation staff member. "Injury can occur if the equipment is not correctly set to each individual."

They also offer services for routine maintenance that include ski binding installation, ski wax, edgings, and repairs.

The outdoor adventure program offers classes and trips on ODR's bus to designated locations--covering ski trips, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, introduction to climbing and kayaking classes. Call in advance to schedule a trip.
