Sexual assault has no place at Fairchild Air Force Base Published Dec. 11, 2012 By 2nd Lt. Rachelle Smith 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Airmen who intimidate or abuse their authority to force another into sexual contact directly undermines the Air Force mission, and senior leadership will not tolerate such actions. In a "Letter to Airmen" released Nov. 16, Secretary of the Air Force, Michael B. Donley, Chief of Staff of the Air Force General Mark A. Welsh III and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James A. Roy reminded Airmen that there is no place for sexual assault in our Air Force. "When it comes to combating this challenge, every Airman is either part of the solution or part of the problem," said senior Air Force leadership. "The only way to stop sexual assault is for Airmen to take action." Fairchild has a number of resources available including the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. Victims or witnesses can receive immediate assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. SARC can be reached at 247-7272. "I am confident that our Airmen will look out for each other," said Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "We have many different avenues for support such as your chain of command or a base chaplain." Airmen can call the SARC office anonymously if they feel uncomfortable identifying themselves. There is also the option to file a restricted report in which the chain of command is not notified and counseling is given if needed. "Anyone, male or female, can be a victim of sexual assault," said Jessica Bradshaw, Fairchild's Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. "It's never too late to get help. Every situation is not the same, so anyone can call confidentially so that we can direct them to the right place." For more information, call 247-7272.
