Fairchild slated to host Skyfest 2013 this summer

The Thunderbirds return to the Inland Northwest this summer to headline Skyfest 2013 -- Team Fairchild's free air show and open house.

The Air Force Demonstration Squadron Thunderbirds take to the skies over Fairchild May 18-19, 2013, concurring with the annual Spokane Lilac Festival.

The 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, Col. Brian Newberry, said Team Fairchild is thrilled to have the Air Force's best to show how the Air Force executes its mission to fly, fight and win.

"We are excited to have Skyfest the same year the Lilac Festival celebrates 75 years of honoring the community and service members," Newberry said. "We want to provide the communities of the Inland Northwest the most informing and entertaining air show possible."

The Thunderbirds perform precision aerial maneuvers demonstrating the capabilities of Air Force high-performance aircraft to people throughout the world.

The two events last coincided together in the laste '90s.
