STOMP workshop comes to Fairchild Published Jan. 22, 2013 By Senior Airman Taylor Curry 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The staff from the Airman & Family Readiness Center hosts a two-day workshop called Specialized Training Of Military Parents. The class will be held Jan. 29 and 30 from 8:30 A.M. to 4 P.M. at the education center, room 104. STOMP provides military parents with individual assistance and information about parents' rights and responsibilities in achieving special education services for their children. "This event will be heavily focused on parents with school-aged children," said Steve J. McMullen, exceptional family member program manager. Established in 1985, STOMP has been recognized as the premiere resource for families within the military who have family members with disabilities and other special education or medical issues. The first day of the workshop will focus on basic education rights, effective communications, advocating for one's family and networking. The second day will focus on other topics such as home files and records, supplemental security income, the individualized education program, planning for a move, healthcare, special needs trust, and wills and guardianship. "This training will help you gain the knowledge to become a strong, effective advocate for your family member throughout their life," said Steve J. McMullen.
