Fairchild's Finest: Tech. Sgt. Ruby Tilley Published March 7, 2013 Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Name: Tech. Sgt. Ruby Tilley Unit: 92nd Air Refueling Wing Command Post Duty title: NCO in charge command post operations What do you do on a daily basis at Fairchild Air Force Base? We monitor all aircraft missions, decode emergency action messages, and we inform wing leadership on a variety of incidents effecting command and control operations on Fairchild. What do you enjoy about your job? In the command post, we are able to listen to all the radio traffic on base, it is very interesting. We also read about current events around the world before it's on the news. Why did you choose to serve in the military? I knew that I needed something structured and positive in my life. My friends and family encouraged me to enlist. It is one of the best decisions I've ever made. What goals do you want to achieve or meet while at the Fairchild Air Force Base? Finish my Bachelor's degree and the books on my "list of books to read." What is your favorite quote? "Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership." -Colin Powell Who is your favorite mentor and what did you learn from him/her? I have a few people that I consider my mentors. They have really taught me the meaning of being "slow to anger, quick to forgive." Something I have to work on every day. If you could spend one hour with any person, who would it be and why? I would go back in time and spend 1 hour with the younger me and try to talk some sense into myself.
