As one of six bases chosen to test 24-hour access, members of Team Fairchild are now able to use the fitness center 24 hours, seven days a week.

This service will be available to those who pre-register their common access card with the fitness center staff during work hours.

"Airmen have to sign a statement of understanding which goes over the rules and regulations of how to use the facility safely because it's unmanned," said Lt. Col. Randy Bailey, 92nd Force Support Squadron commander. "They will then register their CAC in the system so they'll have access to the facility after hours."

Once registered, members -- with the exception of dependents under the age of 18 -- will be able to access the facility with a simple swipe of a military ID card.

"Larger units that struggle to build a unit physical training program will be able to do group PT indoors during the winter," said Bailey. "It also gives members, especially shift workers, more options that fit into Fairchild being a 24/7 operation base."

Senior Airman Malcolm Carruth, 92nd FSS fitness center journeyman, said he looks at the 24-hour gym access as an advantage for Airmen.

"The 24-hour fitness center allows Team Fairchild to use the gym at their convenience," he said. "Physical training is important to Airmen and now they can take advantage of this program allowing the improvement of PT scores and staying fit to fight."

People are encouraged to always use safety while using the fitness center and should assume risk by coming to the facility on their own, said Bailey.

"Additionally, there are 17 surveillance cameras in the facility with a view of every area for safety and security reasons due to the unavailability of staff members after hours," he added.

When using the facility without supervision, Airmen should have a plan in case unexpected incidents occur, he said.

"Airmen are highly encouraged to bring a wingman with them for safety when using the fitness center," Bailey said. "It's a great opportunity for Fairchild, but we should all be responsible, use safety and take care of the facility like your own."
