AFAF is back! Published April 2, 2013 By Senior Airman Taylor Curry 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The annual Air Force Assistance Fund campaign started here March 25 with the campaign ending May 3. The program was established to raise funds for charitable affiliates that provide support to Air Force personnel and families in need. Every year Airmen and civilians may contribute to support this operation. "AFAF is a great opportunity for Airmen to help the Air Force family," said Col. Brian Newberry, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "That support may very well help our Fairchild Airmen. It's important to look out for others especially during these financially difficult times." Organizations such as the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, Air Force Enlisted Village Foundation, Air Force Villages Foundation and Air Force Aid Society help Airmen in need by providing them with aid in the event of an emergency, with educational needs, or provide a secure retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force members in need of financial assistance. "The Air Force Assistance Fund is a great way to give back," said Capt. Ken Scholz, Chief of Public Affairs, 92d Air Refueling Wing and Installation Project Officer for the 2013 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign. "Whether you're a commander or an A1C, your donation is important because it can make all the difference in the life of another Airman. That's what this campaign is about -- Airmen helping Airmen." Contributions are strictly voluntary and donating is easy. Unit representatives have donation paperwork and will process payments via cash, check or payroll deduction for any amount for those who choose to give. Contributions to the AFAF affiliates are tax deductible by taxpayers who itemize deductions. The base goal is to contact 100 percent of base personnel and to raise $52,057 for the campaign this year. Last year, team Fairchild raised $45,319. For more information about the AFAF, contact 1st Lt. Sean Harvey at (509) 247-1187.
