Splashing deal at Tanker Tails

There's a splashing deal at Tanker Tails. Throughout June and July, the animal kennel has half off do-it-yourself dog and cat baths.

This is the third time Tanker Tails has presented this bath deal to Team Fairchild since it first opened almost three years ago.

"Since the bath special was such a hit the past two years we presented it, we wanted to continue the tradition this year as well," said Angela Arp, a kennel manager who has been working at Tanker Tails since 2011 and will be departing. "Most people love being able to come in and bathe their pet without making a mess of their own bathroom. A perk for pet owners is we do all the clean-up!"

The five-dollar DIY bath, which is normally ten dollars, includes the use of our walk-in tub, a variety of shampoos, conditioner, towels, blow dryer, brushes and nail trimmers.

Tanker Tails also has a waterless shampoo, which can be used for cats or dogs and is included in the deal if doing a traditional bath with water isn't a good option. The no rinse shampoo is used to massage into an animal's fur and then is dried with a towel.

The bath deal is by appointment; however, walk-ins are available depending on schedule timing. Kennel managers recommend people call ahead and reserve a spot so they won't have to wait if they choose to walk in and the tub isn't accessible.

"If you're running late for your scheduled time, we ask that you give us a call to let us know," said Heather Krell, who was hired as the kennel manager last month and has been training with Arp during the last few weeks. "We reserve the bath area for one hour for each pet, so if you are late, you just might not have as much time if we have another appointment coming in right after you."

On weekdays, the kennel sees at least one DIY bath per day, however, on weekends, numbers often increase.

"Typically, we see more on the weekends because more people are available," said Arp. "We tend to see a slight increase in late June and July as the weather is nicer and dogs spend more time outside getting dirty and are in need of more frequent baths."

DIY baths are available seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and throughout the year Tanker Tails is capable of housing 12 large dogs, four small "toy" dogs and up to 12 cats.

"We also offer full-service baths for 17 dollars where we do all the work for you, and if your dog is boarding with us, we offer a bath with stay for 15 dollars," said Krell.
