AADD continues selfless service

The Airmen Against Drunk Driving program remains a proven source for Airmen to get home safely when plans fall through.

With more than 130 saves since early 2012, Fairchild Airmen continue to be good Wingmen by providing a safe and anonymous free ride home if they are confronted with an alcohol related situation that could prevent them from making it home safe.

"AADD is an essential tool for Air Force members," said Jessica Franzen, 92nd Communications Squadron AADD outreach coordinator. "If all means for getting home has been exhausted, we offer a permanent back-up plan to save lives and careers."

The service is available on weekends and specific holidays each night from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Members of Team Fairchild can be picked up anywhere within a 30 mile radius of the base.

When a person calls the AADD hotline (509-389-2194) a volunteer dispatcher takes down the caller's information then sends a designated driver to their location. The names of those who use the service are not released under any circumstances.

"The goal of AADD is to ensure the safety of our fellow Airmen and the civilian public, save military careers and reduce casualties and DUI's," said Franzen.

At the beginning of each week, an email is sent to first sergeants and from there, to first four Airmen, it only takes a response to the email to volunteer.

"Initially, I didn't want to give up my weekend nights, but when I thought about it, one night of my weekend, to save lives is a rewarding experience," said Airman 1st Class Austin Giles, 92nd Contracting Squadron contracting specialist and AADD volunteer. "Volunteering for AADD kind of makes me feel like a hero."
