Andrea and Katelyn Felice, daughters of Lt. Col. Michael Felice, former 92nd Maintenance Squadron commander, were recently awarded an academic scholarship from the Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation.

Katelyn, 19, is currently attending Spokane Falls Community College and plans to transfer to Eastern Washington University in a year.

"The scholarship is going to give me a lot of relief and will be really helpful for my education," Katlyn said. "It is really nice for Balfour Beatty to be doing this and getting involved with the base citizen."

Andrea, 17, will be moving to Illinois with her parents with plans to attend South Western Illinois College.

"I was really surprised to be awarded the scholarship. It will really help me out a lot when I start college," said Andrea. "Balfour Beatty is a great family friendly place and this scholarship they offer is awesome."

The foundation is a non-profit organization committed to honoring military personnel - active, disabled and fallen - and their families. 32 total academic scholarships were awarded to children of active-duty military members for the upcoming 2013/2014 school year.

A part of their goal is to promote the pursuit of education and a commitment to community leadership by awarding scholarships to high school seniors and undergraduate students attending educational or technical institutions.

The foundation selected the recipients based on their ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and a drive to get involved in the community and make it better.

"We are very pleased to be able to provide some financial support for the academic pursuit of these bright and accomplished students," said Chris Williams, Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation president. "Balfour Beatty Communities is proud to count these individuals among our residents and we look forward to their positive influence on our communities for years to come."

To qualify for the scholarship the applicant must be a child of an active-duty service member residing in Balfour Beatty Communities' family housing. For more information about the Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation and the scholarship visit www.bbcommunitiesfoundation.org.
