FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Air Mobility Command and the Air Force provide air superiority because of the efforts of its Airmen. Airmen would not be able to complete the mission everyday if they did not have the support of the people around them or a community to follow with them in spiritual belief.

The Fairchild Chapel recently started a Wednesday evening Protestant faith fellowship for those on base who seek a stronger faith-based community. The evening begins with the sharing of a home-cooked meal.

“Historically, many different groups of people would share a meal together [symbolizing] you have each other’s back and are there to support each other,” said Capt. Juan Reyes, 92nd Air Refueling Wing chaplain. “Families may not get off of work in time to cook a meal for their families before coming to church, so we provide them with the ability to join together with family and friends and share a home-cooked meal made by volunteers.”
After dinner, attendees break off into groups for faith-based classes. The different groups consist of women’s study, men’s study, couples classes , and preschool, elementary, middle school and high school-age classes.

“Whether a Protestant, Catholic, or Latter Day Saint, the focus of the chapel is to provide a place for people to worship and grow in their faith,” said Claudia Bishop, Awana ministry director. “When you are in a community of people who believe the same way you do, you can develop connections quicker.”
Without volunteers from Fairchild’s Protestant community the weekly event would not be possible. Each week volunteers make enough food for 70-85 people and provide faith based classes to all age groups.
The evening Protestant faith fellowship is focused on providing the opportunity for members of Team Fairchild to build fellowship, foster companionship and community support through the Protestant faith, but the evenings are open to all who wish to participate.
