Remembering the extensive impact Fairchild Air Force Base has had on the Air Force and operations around the world is important during our 75th year of providing responsive, precise air refueling and operational support for the full range of military operations.

June 15, 1945

Three 92nd Bombardment Group crews began “Project Green,” flying modified B-17 Stratofortress’s carrying troops on the first leg of their journey home from Istres, France to Casablanca, Morocco. They transported nearly 20,000 troops and more than 5,000 French citizens between June 15 and Sept. 11, 1945.This mission marked the first time a heavy bombardment group was used for transport.

June 20, 1994

A former Fairchild AFB airman opened fire with an assault rifle in the base hospital facility, killing five people and injuring 21 more. The gunman was ultimately killed by Senior Airman Andrew Brown, a member of the 92nd Security Police Squadron.

June 28, 1957

This marks the day that the first KC-135 Stratotanker (tail number 55-3127) was delivered to the United States Air Force. The aircraft was delivered to the 93rd Air Refueling Squadron, and then assigned to Castle Air Force Base, California. This was the first of three KC-135s that were delivered that day.
