Fairchild Air Force Base hosted an Individual Ready Reserve muster formation May 20, for Airmen who recently separated from active duty service.

IRR members who attended the event were informed about what the IRR is, the benefits they have and how they play into the readiness of the Air Force. The members also received face-to-face interaction with medical and personnel agencies to ensure their most current information is on record.

“First, I want to say thank you for your years of service to our nation,” said Col. Ryan Samuelson, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. “Many of you started your service after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, and that says a lot about you and your character. We want to ensure we are able to retain that capability in the future for the defense of our country.”

The IRR process is used to help streamline reporting procedures in the event of a recall and enhances the Air Force’s combat capabilities and readiness for potential future contingencies. Additionally, the muster exposes IRR members to a myriad of different career opportunities.

“We want to remain connected with those leaders on hand that we have invested so much effort and training into,” Samuelson said. “Retaining these Airmen is absolutely paramount to remaining an effective Air Force.”

Members are placed on IRR once they separate from the Air Force, depending on the amount of time they enlist for. Timelines vary from two to four years.

This is the first time Fairchild has hosted an IRR muster in five years.
