Members of the Fairchild Teen Center’s Keystone Club attended the Keystone Club conference Mar. 1-5 in Chicago.

The Keystone Club Conference focused on developing teen leaders and is associated with the Boys and Girls Club of America. The conference is held each year to bring together thousands of teens from all over the world to learn from each other and prepare them for their future.

The Boys and Girls Club is an organization dedicated to helping improve the lives of America’s youth by developing their skills in order to better support their communities. Two teens from Fairchild attended the conference, Darius Withrow and Braden Bruess.

“The conference was very eye opening for me,” said Withrow. “As a military kid I have had better privileges than some of the other kids at the conference, some of these kids have different lifestyles than mine, but are still proud of where they come from and who they are.”

The conference had many different components including a college career and workforce-development exposition; more than 35 representatives from colleges, universities, corporations and government agencies provided materials and advice on how to plan for the future.

Speakers talked about how to make a difference in their local communities. The conference also served as a networking opportunity to meet with other teenagers from around the world.

“Military and civilian youth came together to work on leadership skills and learn what it takes to have good character,” said Angela Newsome, 92nd Force Support Squadron assistant director of youth programs. “It was an excellent opportunity for these young men and woman to interact and learn from each other in a safe environment.”
