Survival School inducts new commander

Col. John Groves assumed command of the 336th Training Group from Col. Jonathan Duncan during a ceremony outside of the 336th TRG headquarters building Aug. 10.

Groves joins Team Fairchild after serving as chief of the Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

“The 336th TRG is an incredibly professional organization with a tremendously rich heritage,” Groves said. “My family and I are honored to join a great team here at Fairchild.”

Groves commissioned in 1995 at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

His decorations include a Silver Star, Bronze Star, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, a Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, an Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, an Aerial Achievement Medal, an Air Force Combat Action Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal and a Joint Service Achievement Medal.

The 58th Special Operations Wing commander, Col. Brenda Cartier, was the officiating officer for the ceremony.
