Col. Barry Cargle assumed command of the 92nd Operations Group from Col. Scott Gundlach, during a ceremony held here, July 8.

Cargle was previously the Chief of Programs Division, Directorate of Strategic Plans, Requirements and Programs, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois

Gundlach will be leaving the 92nd OG to take a staff position at Scott AFB, Illinois.

“I want to personally thank the group for your efforts, sacrifices and the commitment to the mission you have displayed over the last two years,” Gundlach said.

Cargle commissioned in the Air Force in 1991 as a pilot. Since then he has commanded at the squadron level and led combat operations in all aspects of mobility and in Air Force Special Operations Command.

“I want to highlight my common theme, and that is teamwork. We will rise to meet the tasked missions and we will be flexible when meeting any unexpected challenges,” Cargle said. “We will do it all in the same way, as a team. We will be mission focused just like this base has always been, but we will do it as a team.”

Cargle has flown more than 3,900 hours in multiple aircraft such as the T-37 Cessna, T-38 Talon, C-5 Galaxy, CASA 212; CN-235, DHC-6 Twin Otter, C-208 Caravan and KC-135 Stratotanker.

This is Cargle’s first assignment as a group commander.
