New commander takes wheel at 92nd LRS

Maj. Kelly Smith assumed command of the 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron from Maj. Lance Vann during a ceremony here June 30.

Smith joins Team Fairchild after studying in-residence at the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.

Vann leaves the 92nd LRS to become the commander of the 735th Air Mobility Squadron at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.

“I know the squadron to be an extremely professional organization, filled with experienced and positive logisticians,” Smith said, addressing her new unit. “I look forward to working with and getting to know all of you. Maj. Vann sings your praises every chance he gets.”

Smith commissioned in 2004 and has previously served as the Deployments and Distribution Flight commander for the 39th LRS at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey; operations officer for the 60th Aerial Port Squadron at Travis AFB, California; and most recently as executive officer for the Air Mobility Command Headquarters Directorate of Logistics at Scott AFB, Illinois, prior to beginning her studentship.

Her decorations include an Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster and an Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

Smith holds a Master of Health Sciences degree from Touro University Worldwide.

She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Colorado Boulder.

The 92nd Mission Support Group commander, Col. David Stookey, was the officiating officer for the ceremony.
