Kim Wyman, Washington state Secretary of State, toured Fairchild Air Force Base to better understand the day-to-day mission March 14.

Her visit included a Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape water survival class demonstration, a KC-135 Stratotanker static display tour and a drive around most of Fairchild's prominent buildings.

The Secretary also spoke with base leadership about improving the quality of life for Fairchild Airmen and their families.

Wyman, elected in 2012, is currently serving her first term and is the second female Secretary of State in Washington history. The first served from 1938-1948.

"It's encouraging to see so many women filling leadership positions across the military," Wyman said. "Comparing to the late 1980's, women have made significant strides throughout history."

Wyman is Washington's 15th Secretary of State and previously served as the Thurston County Auditor for 12 years.

"I'm so proud to serve with all the members of Team Fairchild," Wyman said. "They are truly an asset to the State and I thank them for all they do."
