Team Fairchild and members of the 92nd Security Forces Squadron paid tribute to their fallen comrades during National Police Week, celebrated here from May 12 to 16.

This national remembrance week occurs each year in recognition of the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement officers who lost their lives ensuring America's safety and protection.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726, designating May 15 of each year as Peace Officer's Memorial Day in honor of federal, state and municipal officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

At Fairchild, security forces Airmen participated in a 5k run to kick off the week's activities. Other activities included a remembrance and retreat ceremony and a visit to Michael Anderson Elementary School featuring Scruff McGruff the Crime Dog.

"We remember and honor our defenders and police who are sworn to protect and defend our nation," said Col. Brian Newberry, the 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "We remember the 105 individuals who lost their lives in the line in duty in 2013 and honor them for standing tall every day to protect our freedoms."
