Team Fairchild Hosts Military International World Cup

Team Fairchild was selected to host the 2022 13th Conseil International Du Sport Militaire (CISM) Women’s Soccer World Cup at Mead School District's Union Stadium, July 11-21, 2022.

This event will include two matches daily at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., which are free and open to the public.

“Today we celebrate the 74th birthday of CISM, so a long time with a model of friendship in sports,” said Maj. Rudi Fell, President of CISM Sports Football Committee. “We are happy to be in the city to also bring in the local community.”

Founded in 1948 after World War II, CISM is an international military sports organization devoted to bringing together armed forces personnel from all nations through sports activities, with a mission and vision to endorse friendship amongst service members, enhance mutual respect and solidarity, and promote peace. Since its inception, CISM has brought together 140 countries participate in 26 different sporting events.

“We are thrilled to have this here in the Spokane area and the community’s support is just unbelievable,” said Lt. Col. Jeremiah Kirschman, 92nd Mission Support Group Deputy commander. “We are so lucky that we were selected to host this year’s tournament.”

Ten countries will participate in this year’s World Cup; 2 African teams, 3 American, 2 Asian, and 3 European. Team USA will kick off the Women’s Military World cup on Monday, July 11 at 4 p.m. The Bronze Medal Match and the Championship Match will be on Friday, July 22nd at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at Union Stadium, followed by the award presentation and closing ceremonies.

Fairchild Air Force Base is honored to host this event and is excited to celebrate international partnerships with the local Inland Northwest community.
