Technical Sgt. Brian Lawrence, 92nd Aeromedical Dental Squadron NCO in charge of aerospace physiology training flight operations, was briefing a class in a conference room Sept. 15 when Col. Scott Hanson, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Mark Luzader, 92nd ARW command chief, arrived to deliver some news.

They STEP promoted Brian to master sergeant.

Because Sergeant Lawrence's flight was scheduled to be inspected the following week, he thought the visit from the commander was for a different purpose.

"I thought it was to give us a little pep talk," said Sergeant Lawrence. "Col. (Barbara) Jefts likes to do those kinds of things before inspections."

Colonel Jefts is the 92nd Medical Group commander.

Once the commander and command chief revealed the stripes and the true purpose of the visit, the mood in the room changed to pride for a team member and surprise.

"I had to pinch myself a couple of times to make sure I wasn't sleeping," said Sergeant Lawrence.

Colonel Hanson talked about Sergeant Lawrence's accomplishments and contributions to the flight before opening the floor for attendees to congratulate Sergeant Lawrence.
