Chief Master Sgt. William Welch, the 336th Training Group command chief, recently deployed to Djibouti, Africa. While there he recognized a need and took the initiative to make a difference.

He worked with an orphanage short of everything from clothes to sporting goods to toothbrushes. The chief contacted his home unit and the 336th TRG picked up his call for aid and ran with it.

The word then went out to the squadrons about the orphanage in Djibouti.

The response from the group was overwhelming. They collected 12 boxes of clothing, toys and toiletries totaling over 450 pounds.

Other members of the group found a way to help by giving money to ship the boxes to Chief Welch.

Santa's helpers in the group were Master Sgt. Tammy McAbee and Master Sgt. Paul Mikolajczyk, with assistance from Master Sgt. Tim Gricks in the 36th Rescue Flight; Senior Airman Rebecca Murray in the 336th Training Support Squadron; Master Sgt. Darin Evans and Tech. Sgt. James Donelan in the 66th Training Squadron; Master Sgt. Mike McCoy in the 22nd Training Squadron; and Col. Jeff White, the 336th TRG commander, and Lt. Col. Michael Poole, the 336th TRG vice commander.
