Environmental assessments available for public review Published Jan. 18, 2007 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Flight FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Environmental assessments and findings of no significant impact have been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, the Council on Environmental Quality, and Air Force regulations to analyze the potential environmental consequences of proposals to construct two new facilities. One EA analyzes potential impacts from construction and operation of the Armed Forces Reserve Center in what is currently unimproved and semi-improved land near the Rambo Road gate on Fairchild. The Center supports the relocation and consolidation of the PFC Joe E. Mann Hall U.S. Army Reserve Center #80 and 1st Lt. Richard H. Walker Army National Guard buildings, both based in Spokane. It is expected that approximately 800 personnel will be involved in the relocation with a maximum of 600 personnel using the facilities on training weekends. The second EA analyzes the proposal to construct a new Survival School Resistance Training Facility, located adjacent to the existing Resistance Training facilities, which are south and west of the Survival School Complex on semi and unimproved lands. The new facility will replace current deteriorating facilities and consolidate training facilities for greater efficiency in operations. Both EAs provide details of the action, explain the purpose and need for the action, and assess the potential impacts. The EAs are now available for public review upon request. Public comments on the EA will be accepted through Feb. 10. Direct written comments and inquiries to Joni Sasich, 92 CES/CEVN, 100 W. Ent Street, Fairchild AFB, WA 99011. Phone 247-8207.
