CSC speeds up claims process Published Feb. 13, 2007 By 92nd ARW Legal Office FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps stood up a new Claims Service Center Oct. 1, 2006. This is for the processing of personnel claims against the government. Since then, the CSC, which located in in Kettering, Ohio, has taken over processing of personnel claims from legal offices at bases across the country and around the world. Beginning March 1, the CSC will begin processing all personnel claims from Fairchild. Personnel claims include claims for loss or damage to household goods and privately owned vehicles during shipment or storage at Government expense, as well as claims for loss or damage to personal property located in government quarters or other authorized locations incident to government service. Starting March 1, Fairchild personnel will file personnel claims on-line at the CSC's public website and then submit required documents to the CSC electronically. Individuals will be able to complete the claims process from home after a one-time login on any government computer. As members submit their claims on-line, they'll also be able to access customer service over the web or by phone from the CSC. The new on-line system accelerates claims processing and enables quicker payment. Notably, even with this new system, the Department of Defense Form 1840 and 1840R, entitled "Joint Statement of Loss or Damage at Delivery/Notice of Loss and/or Damage" (also known as "the pink form"), which many Air Force members are well familiar with, will still have to be submitted to the base legal office within 70 days from the date of household goods delivery. After that, however, claims must be filed directly with the CSC within 2 years of the date of the incident.
