Fairchild's Wing Readiness Day program, held the first Friday of each month, will make its next appearance March 2. The day is set aside as exercise preparation time, according to Lt. Col. Robert Boquist, chief of wing plans.

"The wing has a minimized flying schedule and some services are minimized, so group and squadron commanders can focus on readiness training for their units," he said. "It's specifically designed for us to prepare for upcoming exercises, to perfect items that help prepare us for exercises."

For example, if an upcoming base exercise is going to be an emergency response exercise, units may want to practice their shelter-in-place procedures, he said.
Readiness days were developed in 2006 after a two-year exercise schedule was developed through the Deputy Readiness Oversight Committee, which supplements the Installation Readiness Board in ensuring wing readiness.
