Washington State University ROTC cadets from Detachment 905 welcomed six Fairchild Airmen to their Career Day leadership laboratory Thursday.

Airman representing the Judge Advocate General; 92nd Logistic Readiness Squadron; Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school; 92nd Operations and Maintenance Squadrons and Public Affairs described typical days in their fields.

"We don't get much exposure to different career fields, so for (Airmen) to come and speak to us really means a lot," said Bracken Armstrong, Det 905 cadet.

Fairchild Airmen have been participating in the school's Career Day for more than 10 years, educating ROTC cadets on the Air Force's active-duty mission.

"It's critical to have active-duty Airmen give the cadets a real-world perspective of how we operate," said Det 905 Commandant of Cadets, Capt. Billy Babbitt.

Fairchild servicemembers also actively represent the Air Force in the local community with such volunteer activities as offering base visits, attending community events and speaking at local schools.

Joe Wiles, chief of community relations, believes community interaction is important for community members to "put a face to the Air Force."

"It gives us the opportunity to meet them and them the opportunity to meet us," Mr. Wiles said. "Career Day was a very important event because these cadets will soon become a part of our Air Force family ... The more we show them the better officers they will become."

LRS flight commander Capt. Michael Denison felt privileged to chat with cadets about his career field.

"It felt good to let cadets know how logistics has changed and where it's going," he said.
The cadets of Det 905 expressed their appreciation to the Airmen who attended Career Day by presenting them each with a Det 905 water bottle, T-shirt and Det coin.
