FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The following are brief notifications or updates about events happening on or around the base:

Arnold Street detour
There is a detour on Arnold Street between George Avenue and Doolittle Avenue, in Front of Building 2050. The work to replace the low-bay roof on Building 2050 started April 11, and is expected to take up to 6 months. The detour on Arnold Street will route traffic around the front of building 2050 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Thursday. The street will be reopened for traffic during off hours and weekends. Access to the parking lot across the street from the Building 2050, West Annex, Vehicle Maintenance and the water plant on Foulois Street is still available. Community Service Opportunity
The Michael Anderson Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is currently preparing for the annual spring carnival. The carnival committee will be meeting the last time at the base library at 6 p.m. April 17. Set-up will be April 20 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. and April 21 starting at 8 a.m. Volunteer positions include: setup, game monitoring, face painting, food server, silent auction, talent show, and cleanup. Volunteer hours are broken up into 1 hour increments. Airman's Attic closure
The Airman's Attic and Loan Closet will be closed April 18, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. This time has been set aside to recognize the volunteers that have assisted Family Services this past year.

Force Development Road Show
There will be two personnel 101 and force development briefings presented by Col. James Miner and Chief Master Sgt. Marcus Hadeed, Air Mobility Command Airmen Development and Sustainment, April 20 at the base theater. The 8:30 a.m. briefing is open to all enlisted Airmen, but is targeted for technical sergeant through chief master sergeant. The 10:30 a.m. briefing is open to all officers, but is targeted for second lieutenant through lieutenant colonel. Briefing times are subject to change. For more information, contact 2nd Lt. Pride run
There will be a wing 5k run/walk April 20 starting at 1:30 p.m. at Miller Park. Entrance fee is $3 for children and $5 for adults. For more information, contact Perry Strons at 247-4557 or Staff Sgt. Mikel Daniels at 247-2791.

Spaghetti feed
To celebrate the Month of the Military Child, the Child Development Center is hosting a free spaghetti lunch April 20 for families with children enrolled in the CDC. Families with infants and pre-toddlers start at 10:45 a.m., toddlers start at 11 a.m. and preschool and kindergarten start at 11:30 a.m. For information, call Nancy Keeton at 247-2403.

Circus Safari: Carnival & Craft Fair '07
April 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Circus Safari carnival is coming to Michael Anderson Elementary, located at 400W Fairchild Highway. The carnival will offer games, face painting and balloon animals. A fine art entertainment talent show by the children at Michael Anderson Elementary will be at noon. Local crafters will be demonstrating their businesses and crafts of our community. A silent auction and raffle will continue throughout day to help raise funds for a wireless computer lab for the school's students.

Veterinary Clinic closed
The Fairchild Veterinary Clinic is closed through April 23 due to a staffing shortfall. The clinic will reopen April 24 for appointments. Several well-qualified vets practice in Airway Heights and the surrounding area if your pets require veterinarian services. Contract services are being explored to limit future closures. Retiree Appreciation Day
There will be an appreciation day to recognize and thank military retirees for their service April 24 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Club Fairchild. The event will also provide a forum for base agencies to address and meet retirees' needs. For more information, contact Mel McCoury at 247-5359.

Chief's Steakout
The Fairchild Chief's Group will prepare a steak lunch from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., April 25, in Building 2050, Hangar 2. Lunch will include a steak, baked potato, salad, beans and a soda. The cost is $7 per ticket, which can be purchased from any chief master sergeant. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support various enlisted corps projects including Community College of the Air Force scholarships.

Bloomsday Run volunteers needed
The 2007 Bloomsday Run organizers are looking for 70-80 people to volunteer in assisting more than 40,000 runners and walkers find their start locations during the 31st Bloomsday Run May 6 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, contact Emily Huttinger or Master Sgt. Sheila Haley at 247-5935.

Golf tournament
5th Annual Society of American Military Engineers Golf Tournament takes place June 1 at the Wandermere Golf Course. Shotgun start for the best ball scramble is at 7 a.m. Entry fee is $65 per player or $240 for a foursome. Price includes a round of golf, a cart and an all-you-can-eat hamburger and salad lunch. The tournament is open to SAME members and nonmembers; proceeds benefit the SAME Lewis and Clark Post Scholarship Fund. Tournament sponsorship opportunities are available for $100, $200 and $325.
