Briefly Published June 5, 2007 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- The following are brief notifications or updates about events happening on or around the base: Mobile USO A USO Mobile House and Signing takes place in the BX parking lot June 5-6. The Mobile USO is making the stop to allow personnel to tour and use the $400,000 vehicle, record messages and sign banners for the troops stationed overseas. The Mobile USO program enables the USO to extend morale-building services to military members and their families, some of whom are in remote and isolated areas. Each Mobile USO features a lounge area with televisions and a home theater system, external entertainment capabilities, computer work stations with internet connectivity and X-Box video gaming systems, and a mobile kitchen. Medical Group farewell picnic The 92nd Medical Group hosts a farewell luncheon for Col. Patrick Murray, Lt. Col. Eleanor Foreman and Lt. Col. Darrell Landreaux at Miller Lake June 22 at 1 p.m. The meal, catered by Longhorn BBQ, is $10 per person. Indoor pool closure The indoor pool will be temporarily closed through June 14 to complete a mission-critical construction project. This will effect all pool operations including spring swim lessons, swim team, open swim, lap swim, water aerobics and pool parties. All patrons with pool passes can request to have extended by one month free of charge. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to serving you again soon. Family Fun Day The Airmen and family Readiness Center hosts a Family Fun Day at the Fun Spot June 21, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Activities will include free bowling, roller skating and miniature golf, and pizza and drink while they last. The day is open to all military personnel and family members. For information, call 247-2246. Hoopfest Hoopfest XVIII is June 30 - July 1 in downtown Spokane. Court monitor volunteers receive a free T-shirt, hat and Nike shorts and shoes. Volunteer online at www.spokanehoopfest.net. Clear Lake Triathlon Fairchild employees and family members age 16 and older are eligible to participate in the Clear Lake Triathlon July 14. Participants can register individually ($5 entry fee) or as a group ($10 entry fee.) The triathlon will include a 15-mile bike ride, 5-kilometer run and 600-meter swim. Sign up at the Fitness Center or call 247-2791 for information. A&FRC to offer free movie matinee A free children's movie matinee will play July 14 at 2 p.m. at the base theater. This event, sponsored by the Airman and Family Readiness Center, is open to the first 400 military children and their parents to arrive. Free popcorn, a drink and candy will also be on hand. Palace Chase program change There will be a Palace Chase briefing June 14 at 1 p.m. in the Military Personnel Finance conference room (Bldg. 2245, room 227A). The briefing is open to all ranks. The Air Force has approved a temporary change to the current service commitment for people transferring to the Guard or Reserve through Palace Chase. Through Sept. 30, the Palace Chase service commitment is reduced from a two-for-one year payback to a one-for-one year payback. For example, servicemembers with one year before their date of separation will owe just one year to the Guard or Reserve; there is no DOS extension. For information, call Tech. Sgt. Kenneth Toon at 247-2976. Air conditioner brackets Fairchild's new air conditioner brackets are the required standard installation method for window air conditioners in family housing. The brackets are available for family housing occupants (limit of two brackets per household) at the Family Housing Office, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Installation instructions and parts are included in the package. Housing Inspectors will be available to answer questions. Air conditioner brackets will be included in this year's summer inspections. T-ball and coach pitch program T-ball and coach pitch registration is currently taking place through June 15. T-ball is for ages 5 and 6, and coach pitch is for ages 7 and 8. The cost is $35. A current physical is required. The league is non-competitive and teaches basic fundamentals, good sportsmanship, self-esteem, self-reliance, group achievement perspective and team sports appreciation in a fun and safe environment. Smart Start T-ball is a parent and child program for ages 3 and 4. The cost is $45. Children learn the basic fundamentals of T-ball in a zero-pressure environment. Registration for both programs is at the Youth Center Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first game is July 10. Teams are formed on the availability of coaches. Waiting lists are formed on a first-come basis. Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches and officials are needed. A coaches clinic will be offered at 5 p.m., June 23 at the Deel Community Center. Paintball range now open Paintball is back with a splat at the Sports Range, where the paintball season is now officially open. The speedball course is designed for all players/skill levels.
