TMO gets moving with newest initiative Published July 10, 2007 By Tech. Sgt. Larry W. Carpenter Jr. 92nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- As the Air Force continues to look for smarter and more efficient ways to do business, the Traffic Management Office here is already putting a plan into action. By October 1, the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office - Colorado Springs will take over all hiring of contractors and storage of personal property responsibilities. The JPPSO is a jointly staffed Department of Defense activity assigned to Headquarters United States Air Force Directorate of Logistics Readiness that supports all service components. The JPPSO prides themselves on providing premier personal property movement services for our DOD customers and performs as the Air Force executive Support Agency for Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System functionality. The services provided by the JPPSO include acquisition of transportation, storage and related services within a specified area of responsibility on a common service, non-reimbursable basis. The reason for the change is that the TMO's are taking the same route as the "Super MPF" or "Super Finance," with the objective of having one central location, rather than many different offices, in charge of handling paperwork, contracts, hiring of companies, delivering goods, and other services, said Tech. Sgt. Kristina Bath, 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron NCOIC of personal property. "The TMO will not go away but the change will allow us to provide better quality, one-on-one service," said Sergeant Bath. "We can get away from the mass briefings and it will allow us to free up personnel to travel to personal residences to resolve any problems that arise." Now that JPPSO sets the rules for the individual offices, you can expect to receive the same service from your point of origin to your point of destination. "Having everyone using the same set of rules keeps everyone on the same page," said Sergeant Bath. This change should affect everyone that would generally use TMO, to include active duty, retirees, guard and sister servicemembers. Handing over these responsibilities to the JPPSO should be a win-win situation for everyone involved. "The accessibility of information for customers should be readily available," said Sergeant Bath. "The customer will know what's going on with their shipment from the beginning to the end of their move." In addition to the customers, the local Military Personnel Finance centers will benefit because they will have a central point of contact, especially when it comes to billing. Due to the fact that everything is being tracked electronically, the billing process that normally takes between 40 and 50 days will be reduced to 5 days. With October 1 right around corner, Sergeant Bath feels like the change is going to be excellent for the customers and the base. "I can't stress enough how much this benefits the member," said Sergeant Bath. "It will make the process a lot quicker and smoother."
