Fairchild briefs Published Aug. 7, 2007 FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Veterans and Military Resource Fair A Country to Community Veterans and Military Resource Fair is scheduled for Aug. 25, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Washington State University - Spokane River Point Campus. In attendance will be Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and other various Eastern Washington groups. Information and assistance will be provided on benefits, medical records, health care services, financial assistance, resume building, SBA Loans and more. Contact Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers' Spokane office at 353-2374 for more information. Pharmacy to close Aug. 27 - 30 The main pharmacy will be relocating Aug. 27-30. During this transition, prescription services will only be available at the refill pharmacy located between the BX and Commissary. The refill pharmacy's hours of operation during this week of transition will be 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. for full service. The refill pharmacy will also be open for refill pick-up on the Wing Family Day, Aug. 31, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. It is recommended you fill your prescriptions before or after the relocation to avoid extended delays. As a reminder, your prescriptions may be filled after 75 percent of your medication is consumed according to the directions on your label. The new pharmacy will open Sept. 4. Base Security and Policy Review In accordance with Public Affairs regulation if you are planning to represent Fairchild in the community on behalf of the Air Force, Public Affairs can assist you in developing talking points and will review your speech and/or presentation. DARE Camp Youth entering into 5th and 6th grades are eligible to sign up for DARE Camp. The camp is Aug 20 - 24, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Miller Park and will include activities focused on living in a drug-free environment. DARE Camp is also looking for mentors for the program. Mentoring will be a week-long commitment. To register or volunteer, contact Susan Conard at 247-2144 by Aug. 15. Palace Chase Briefing There will be Palace Chase briefing Aug 9 at 1 p.m. in the Military Personnel Flight conference room. The briefing is open to all ranks. Information in the briefing will include the early release program which allows active duty personnel to transfer to the Air Force Reserve before their established date of separation and general information about the Air Force Reserve. Conserving energy one computer at a time In an effort to conserve energy and save resources, Headquarters Air Mobility Command has directed all computers and associated peripherals be powered down when not needed for patching or security scans. Fairchild will implement this policy starting Aug. 9. It will be recommended to power down unused PCs at the end of the duty day with the exception of Tuesdays. At the end of each Tuesday users should restart their PC to allow required software updates and/or security patches. Also, leave your PCs powered on during the first Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the month for a sweep and scan of the AMC domain. All 24-hour work centers must restart PCs each evening at shift change. This initiative should result in an estimated savings of $140 thousand annually at Fairchild alone. AMC looking for marathon runners The 11th annual Air Force Marathon is Sept. 15 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, as part of the Air Force 60th Anniversary celebration. Marathon organizers have set a goal of 10,000 participating runners. This year, a new "MAJCOM Challenge" is being introduced. At the fall Corona, a traveling trophy will be presented to the command with the most participation points, and the highest male and female finishers in the full and half marathons. Air Mobility Command vice commander Lt. Gen. Chris Kelly is personally encouraging maximum support of the marathon, and is urging AMC Airmen to participate. AMC will fund male and female teams in the full and half marathon events. Permissive TDY is authorized for participants. SNCO induction banquet A senior NCO induction banquet will be held Aug. 23 at Club Fairchild, 6 p.m. social and 6:30 p.m. start. Meal choices are Whiskey sirloin strip steak or Roman chicken with pasta. The meal is $24 for club members and $26 for non-members. Dress is semi-formal or mess dress for military, and civilian equivalent for non-military. RSVP to your first sergeant by Aug. 14. Bundles for Babies The Airman and Family Readiness Center would like to invite first-time parents to the Bundles for Babies Class August 28. This fun and informative class will help prepare for new additions to family. Class time is from 2 to 4 p.m. Topics discussed include the developmental stages, financial planning and emotional aspects of having a new baby. The class is open to all expectant active duty Air Force families, as well as those with babies three months and younger. There will be bundles of information and free goodies for the newborn. Class size is limited so RSVP is required. Call the AFRC or Mrs. Della Gooding at 247-2246 to reserve your seat. Heart Link Workshop The Airman and Family Readiness Center will be conducting a Heart Link Workshop Sept. 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for interested military spouses. Heart Link is a program that strives to strengthen military families and enhance mission readiness. Spouses will learn about the Air Force mission, military customs, traditions and protocol, as well as support resources and services available to them. There will be free child care for those attending. Lunch will be provided. Advanced registration for the workshop is required to make reservations for the child care. Flightline restricted area realignment in effect The flightline restricted area realignment is now in effect. Primary entry is through Flightline Vehicle Gate FV-9 located between the Snow Barn and the 92nd Logistics Readiness Squadron. As a reminder, when aircraft are present in temporary restricted areas and for the permanent restricted area, individuals need a restricted area badge with the open area 4, be under escort, or have a home station restricted area badge with an authenticated entry authority list. All vehicles and individuals will enter through the designated entry control points unless a known emergency, Klaxon, aircraft taxiing, or pre-approved clearance is granted. Unit security managers will have maps indicating the realignment. Questions can be directed to the Staff Sgt. William Brown, 92nd Security Forces Squadron, at 247-5998. ALS looking for instructors Fairchild's Airman Leadership School flight chief is accepting applications for two staff sergeant instructor positions. Eagle Eyes The Fairchild Office of Special Investigations would like to remind Fairchild personnel and family members to remain vigilant, notice things that are out of place and report any suspicious activities to OSI, 247-2591, or the law enforcement desk, 247-5555. Keep an eye out for the following behaviors: surveillance, elicitation, security tests, acquiring supplies, suspicious or out-of-place persons, dry-run attempts and deploying assets. Undergraduate Flying Training The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Applicants must send the completed application postmarked by Nov. 26 to: HQ AFPC/DPAOT3 550 C Street West Suite 31 Randolph AFB, TX 78150-4733 Applicants are responsible for advising commanders and supervisors providing AF Form 215 comments of the application deadline.
