Briefs Commander's Call A Commander's Call will be held Sept. 28 at the base theater at 7 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or 3 p.m. All 92nd Air Refueling Wing military personnel must attend one session. Civilian personal are welcome and encouraged to attend. POW/MIA ceremony The 92nd Air Refueling Wing will hold a POW/MIA ceremony Sept. 21, 8 a.m., at the base theater. All military and civilian personnel are encouraged to attend. Blood drive The Armed Forces Blood Bank will hold a blood drive Sept. 25, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the fitness center. Donors should drink plenty of fluids the days before and of the donation, and eat prior to the blood drive. Certain travel restrictions apply to donors. If you spent more than six months in Western Europe between 1980 and 1996, more than three months in the UK between 1980 and 1996, or more than five years total in those locations since 1996 you are currently restricted from donating. Fall Bowling Leagues at the Funspot Fall bowling leagues have started at the Funspot. Are you looking for something for your kids to do on the weekend? The Youth Bowling League Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. for ages 4-21 for only $5 per week per child. It's not only fun, but it's a great form of exercise. Nominations need to include the rank and name of the nominee, duty location, duty hours, supervisors name and duty phone, and why the nominees deserves this recognition. Winner will be announced on Oct. 18 at the 5/6 meeting held at 3:30 p.m. in Hollywood North in Club Fairchild. Book grant essay contest The Fairchild 56 Club is sponsoring an essay contest with a $100 book grant as the prize open to ranks E-1 through E-6. Essays must include a cover page including name, rank, squadron, school attending, degree program and tuition assistance form to verify enrollment. It must be one to two pages in length and in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced with one inch margins on all sides. The topic is: "In honor of the Air Force 60th anniversary, choose a person in Air Force history that influenced the Air Force that we have today." Submit essays to Tech. Sgt. Melva Stith or Tech. Power bumps Power bumps of about 15 seconds will affect Fairchild Sept. 24 and 28. The short outages are necessary for the 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron and Avista Utilities to perform maintenance on base electrical transmission equipment. Each bump will occur between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. and affect only facilities north of the runway. Woodworking classes to begin soon The next session of woodworking classes is set to begin soon. Wood I, which includes learning the basics and building a nightstand, begins Oct. 3. The cost is $80. Wood II, which includes expanding those skills and building a dresser, begins Oct. 4. Wood III, which allows you to get creative and pick your own project, begins Oct. 11. The cost for Wood II and III is $99. Contact the Wood Craft Center for more details at 247-5189. Hot water to shut off temporarily in Aquatic Center Due to required maintenance at the Aquatic Center, the pool and showers will be without hot water Sept. 14-23. Showers can be used at the Fitness Center. The pool temperature is expected to drop to 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Diamond Dash All military ID card holders and their dependents are invited to attend the First Sergeant's Diamond Dash fundraiser Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. in support of the Fairchild enlisted force and "Operation Warmheart" There will be 5 and 10K runs at Miller Park. Book swap Starting Oct. 1, the Deel Community Center will hold a book swap from 9 a.m. - noon and a story hour from 10-11 a.m. every Monday the center is open. Masters Swim Team The Aquatics Center is starting a Masters Swim Team designed for adults preparing for triathlons or wishing to compete in swim meets. CDC Part Day program The Child Development Center is offering a Part Day Program for children ages 24-36 months. There are two, three and five-day program options. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform at Ferris High School in Spokane Oct. 29 (time to be determined.) Admission is free and open to the public. Undergraduate Flying Training The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Education Briefs Force Development Courses - Anatomy of Leadership and Influence helps students to maximize their leadership abilities. The course is open to all military and civilian personnel, and is held Sept. 21, 8 a.m. - noon, at the Education Center, Room 113. - The Adult Learner Teacher Class offers strategies to effectively facilitate adult learning in briefings, training programs and short courses. The course is open to all Force Development Education instructors, and all military and civilian instructors and supervisors. The class is held Sept. 25, 8 a.m. - 10 a.m., at the Education Center, Room 105. - Enlisted 101 is a career maximization course for airmen basic through senior airmen, and new supervisors of enlisted personnel. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Degree and AMT Programs Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Spokane Campus offers an AMT Type 65 certificate of completion program in preparation for the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license exam. For those seeking a degree, up to 36 semester hours of advance standing credit may be applied towards the Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics degree. Additionally, other undergraduate and graduate degree programs in aviation aerospace are available and can be completed in class or online. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after the test date. The requirement will not be waived; failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the test. - All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host and home institution registrars, and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed, without exception. Students who want a consortium/visiting student agreement to be processed need to start their paperwork early. Students must also ensure the host institution registrar completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Southern Illinois University Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format bachelor of science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule (one to two weekends per month.) No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Classes begin Jan. 12.
