Education briefs are located at the bottom of the page. Briefs Club Fairchild membership drive Club Fairchild is holding a membership drive through Dec. 31. Squadrons will receive credit for each new squadron member, military or civilian, who signs up at the Club Fairchild cash cage. The three squadrons with the highest percentages of new members during the drive receive a $300, a $200 and a $100 voucher respectively for a squadron function held at Club Fairchild. Annual Turkey Shoot at the Sports Range The Annual Turkey Shoot at the Sports Range will be held Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a $5 entry fee for each event. Events will include Annie Oakley's Quail Walk, Miss and Outs, Buddy Shoots and lessons about still target shoots. No animals are to be harmed during this event, but you just might win a frozen turkey or other prizes. Contact the Sports Range at 247-5973 for details about this annual event. AMC sponsored Rosetta Stone Program at base library Learn a foreign language, improve your career options or prepare for overseas assignments with the Rosetta Stone program. MSG Night at Club Fairchild The 92nd Mission Support Group will host MSG Night at Club Fairchild Oct. 9 beginning at 4 p.m. Bell bottoms, butterfly-collared shirts and platform shoes are authorized, as there will be a best dressed contest. There will also be 70's trivia, tricycle races, a jump rope challenge and limbo contest. 2007 Combined Federal Campaign drive Take this opportunity to help local Fairchild youth by donating to the Child Development Center or the Youth Center through the Combined Federal Campaign. Lost and Found Several items have been turned into the Security Forces Lost and Found. The items relinquished to security forces as found or abandoned property includes one black and gold ring, one Audiovox mini handheld radio, one small denim purse, one Roadmaster bicycle, one U.S. Bank money bag. Cooking classes at the HAWC Fresh and healthy cooking class will be held at the Health and Wellness Center on the first and third Fridays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The first class will be Oct. 19. Learn how to use fresh foods to make healthy, great tasting food for you and your family. Classes are taught by a registered dietitian using seasonal items to help you save money on your grocery bill and prepare great tasting nutritious food. Pumpkin Patrol Every year, volunteers walk through the base housing areas during Trick-or-Treating hours as members of the Annual Pumpkin Patrol. This provides a safe environment for the children. Breast Cancer Awareness Month For more than 20 years National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has helped focus national attention on breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment. Active duty women and adult female retirees and family members are encouraged to schedule their annual Pap, breast exam and mammogram (if required) for the same day at the 92nd Medical Group clinic. Airman's Attic donations Due to building renovations, the Airman's Attic will be unable to accept donations from Oct. 11 through Nov. 21, as they will be unable to store them during this time. Volunteer sexual assault victim advocates needed The next training session for volunteer sexual assault victim advocates is Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Post Office (lower level.) Rambo Gate procedure change Starting Oct. 9 at 6 a.m., personally-owned vehicles will not be allowed entry through Rambo Gate. All POVs must enter through the Fairchild Main Gate after this time. Air Force Ball photos available for pickup Air Force Ball attendees who ordered professional photos can pick them up at the Deel Community Center, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays. Photos are located in front of the Director's office. Please pick them up as soon as possible. Book swap The Deel Community Center holds a book swap 9 a.m. - noon and a story hour 10-11 a.m. every Monday the center is open. Volunteers are needed to read during story hour. Masters Swim Team The Aquatics Center is starting a Masters Swim Team designed for adults preparing for triathlons or wishing to compete in swim meets. CDC Part Day program The Child Development Center is offering a Part Day Program for children ages 24-36 months. There are two, three and five-day program options. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Fees are based on total family income. Registration for the program is on a first-come first-serve basis. Parents Night Out/Deployed Give Parents a Break Starting in October, Deployed Give Parents a Break will be held in conjunction with Parents Night Out, the third Friday night of each month. Undergraduate Flying Training The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Education Briefs Develop your leadership skills The Force Development Education courses offered free each month at the base Education Center offer an opportunity to enhance skills in career management, effective communication, productive relationships, giving effective feedback, understanding leadership growth and developing cooperative learning in training programs. Attend the Officer 101 course for junior officers to maximize your career. The course is open to those ranked 2nd lieutenant through captain, as well as enlisted personnel interested in commissioning. The course will be held Oct. 30 at the base Education Center in room 105 from 8 a.m. to noon. The Anatomy of Leadership and Influence course is available to all military and civilian personnel looking to maximize their leadership abilities. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Degree and AMT Programs Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Spokane Campus offers an AMT Type 65 certificate of completion program in preparation for the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license exam. For those seeking a degree, up to 36 semester hours of advance standing credit may be applied towards the Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics degree. Additionally, other undergraduate and graduate degree programs in aviation aerospace are available and can be completed in class or online. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after the test date. The requirement will not be waived; failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the test. - All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host and home institution registrars, and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed, without exception. Students who want a consortium/visiting student agreement to be processed need to start their paperwork early. Students must also ensure the host institution registrar completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Southern Illinois University Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format bachelor of science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule (one to two weekends per month.) No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training.
