Briefs Town Hall Meeting There will be a Town Hall meeting at Club Fairchild Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Topics of discussion will include housing privatization, snow season responsibilities, fall and winter house preparations, youth sports, family member support update, security forces update, and a Medical Lake School District update, among other things. Club Fairchild membership drive Club Fairchild is holding a membership drive through Dec. 31. Squadrons will receive credit for each new squadron member, military or civilian, who signs up at the Club Fairchild cash cage. The three squadrons with the highest percentages of new members during the drive receive a $300, a $200 and a $100 voucher respectively for a squadron function held at Club Fairchild. Call Club Fairchild for information at 247-2616. Applications are available at the club's cash cage. Flight Line Run Tired of that same old running route? Take a jog on the runway instead. The 5K on the Runway will be held Oct. 19 beginning at 10:30 and is open to all members of Team Fairchild. Squadrons may enter the Squadron competition with a four-person team. One member must be part of the squadron's leadership, one must be female, and teams must have at least one company grade officer and one enlisted member. MSG Night at Club Fairchild The 92nd Mission Support Group will host MSG Night at Club Fairchild Oct. 19 beginning at 4 p.m. Bell bottoms, butterfly-collared shirts and platform shoes are authorized, as there will be a best dressed contest. There will also be 70's trivia, tricycle races, a jump rope challenge and limbo contest. Fitness Center Locker Policy Change The Fitness Center will conduct a locker change. Green Plate Lunch Special at Club Fairchild There will be a green plate lunch special at Club Fairchild. It is a new, lighter lunch option that includes unlimited soup, salad and beverages. The option will be available Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost will be $5.95 for members and $7.95 non-members. Holiday party reservations Services is standing by for holiday party reservations. There are a variety of venues, dates and options for holiday parties at Club Fairchild, the Final Point, 247-2616; Funspot, 247-2422; and the Aquatic Center, 247-2242. Family and kids' parties are welcome. Ski Blow Out Sale The Outdoor Recreation Connection is having a huge winter ski blow out sale starting Oct. 22. Used adult and junior skis and bindings from $75 to $100 will be available. Buy your winter skis while supplies last. Call 247-2511 for details. Wild West Fall Fest The Wild West Fall Fest, a children's carnival with a western theme, will be held Oct. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Fairchild Chapel Annex. Operation Warm Heart The holiday season is fast approaching and it is time to survey your Airman for those who may be in need of a little extra help at Thanksgiving. Lost and Found Several items have been turned into the Security Forces Lost and Found. The items relinquished to security forces as found or abandoned property includes one black and gold ring, one Audiovox mini handheld radio, one small denim purse, one Roadmaster bicycle, one U.S. Bank money bag. Cooking classes at the HAWC Fresh and healthy cooking class will be held at the Health and Wellness Center on the first and third Fridays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The first class will be Oct. 19. Learn how to use fresh foods to make healthy, great tasting food for you and your family. Classes are taught by a registered dietitian using seasonal items to help you save money on your grocery bill and prepare great tasting nutritious food. Scary stories hour On Oct. 28, the Fairchild Exchange will host a scary stores hour with George Maupin, Weatherman for KHQ Channel 6. This is in line with their "Success by 6" reading campaign targeted at getting young kids interested in reading. He will be at the Main Store from 2 to 3 p.m. Pumpkin Patrol Every year, volunteers walk through the base housing areas during Trick-or-Treating hours as members of the Annual Pumpkin Patrol. This provides a safe environment for the children. Breast Cancer Awareness Month For more than 20 years National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has helped focus national attention on breast cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment. Active duty women and adult female retirees and family members are encouraged to schedule their annual Pap, breast exam and mammogram (if required) for the same day at the 92nd Medical Group clinic. Volunteer sexual assault victim advocates needed The next training session for volunteer sexual assault victim advocates is Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Post Office (lower level.) Masters Swim Team The Aquatics Center is starting a Masters Swim Team designed for adults preparing for triathlons or wishing to compete in swim meets. CDC Part Day program The Child Development Center is offering a Part Day Program for children ages 24-36 months. There are two, three and five-day program options. Parents Night Out/Deployed Give Parents a Break Starting in October, Deployed Give Parents a Break will be held in conjunction with Parents Night Out, the third Friday night of each month. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform at Ferris High School in Spokane Oct. 29 (time to be determined.) Admission is free and open to the public. Undergraduate Flying Training The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Education Briefs Develop your leadership skills The Force Development Education courses offered free each month at the base Education Center offer an opportunity to enhance skills in career management, effective communication, productive relationships, giving effective feedback, understanding leadership growth and developing cooperative learning in training programs. Attend the Officer 101 course for junior officers to maximize your career. The course is open to those ranked 2nd lieutenant through captain, as well as enlisted personnel interested in commissioning. The course will be held Oct. 30 at the base Education Center in room 105 from 8 a.m. to noon. The Anatomy of Leadership and Influence course is available to all military and civilian personnel looking to maximize their leadership abilities. The course will be held Oct. 26 at the base Education Center in room 113 from 8 a.m. to noon. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Degree and AMT Programs Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Spokane Campus offers an AMT Type 65 certificate of completion program in preparation for the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license exam. For those seeking a degree, up to 36 semester hours of advance standing credit may be applied towards the Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics degree. Additionally, other undergraduate and graduate degree programs in aviation aerospace are available and can be completed in class or online. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and a graduation requirement. WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after the test date. The requirement will not be waived; failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the test. - All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host and home institution registrars, and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed, without exception. Students who want a consortium/visiting student agreement to be processed need to start their paperwork early. Students must also ensure the host institution registrar completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Southern Illinois University Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format bachelor of science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule (one to two weekends per month.) No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Full Financial assistance is available to qualified students. Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development. Classes begin Jan. 12.
