Briefs

Tops in Blue
Tops in Blue, the Air Force's expeditionary entertainment unit, is scheduled to perform at the Northern Quest Casino Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. More information will become available as the date approaches.

Town Hall Meeting
There will be a Town Hall meeting at Club Fairchild Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Topics of discussion will include housing privatization, snow season responsibilities, fall and winter house preparations, youth sports, family member support update, security forces update, and a Medical Lake School District update, among other things.

2007 Combined Federal Campaign drive
Take this opportunity to help local Fairchild youth by donating to the Child Development Center or the Youth Center through the Combined Federal Campaign. The campaign runs through Nov. 13. Contact your unit CFC Representative or Maj. Scott Linck at 247-2432 for details.

Month of the Military Family
The Airman and Family Readiness Center sponsors free weekly prize drawings during, November, the National Month of the Military Family.

Musical Salute to Veterans
The El Katif Shrine Legion of Honor will host a "Musical Salute to Veterans" show Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Masonic Temple auditorium, located at 1108 W. Riverside Ave. in Spokane, Wash. The 8th annual show is free and open to the public.

Family Night at Club Fairchild
Games, music, crafts and a Southern-style buffet will be available to families Nov. 9 in recognition of Military Family Month. The cost will be $8.95 for members and $11.95 for non-members. Children 5-10 years old will eat half off, and children under 4 years old are free. A $3 kids' menu is also available. Contact Club Fairchild at 244-3622 for more information.

Recruiter for Military Training Instructors to visit Fairchild
Air Education and Training Command Special Duty Assignment Team will host a SDA briefing Nov. 13 at the base Education Center, room 111 from 0845-1045. Airmen interested in attending the briefing should be an A1C with at least 24 months Time In Service through Master Sergeant with less than 17 years Total Active Federal Military Service.

Bulk Item Pick-up
There will be a bulk item pick up on base Nov. 7 in the Fort Wright Village, officer Capehart and senior officer housing and Nov. 14 at the Galena station, NCO Capehart, main base and survival dormitories. Items to be collected must be less than 10 feet long, less than 300 pounds and can't be hazardous. Items intended for Goodwill will also be collected but must be marked with "Goodwill."

Veteran's Day Ceremony
There is going to be a Veteran's Day Ceremony at Fairchild's own Ft George Wright Cemetery on Nov. 11 at 0900. The cemetery is located at Government Way and Houston, just west of Spokane Falls Community College. The Airway Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars and Washington Air National Guard Honor Guard will carry out the ceremony.

FunSpot Family Day
Every Sunday in November, the FunSpot will host a FunSpot Famliy Day from 1 to 7 p.m. in recognition of Military Family Month. Bowling, shoe rental, miniature golf and the batting cages will all cost $1. Call the FunSpot at 247-2422 for more information.

Free Movie Showing
In recognition of Military Family Month the Airman and Family Readiness Center is hosting two free movies Nov. 10 at the base theater. "The Game Plan" will play at 2 p.m. and "Good Luck Chuck" will play at 7 p.m.

AAFES Customer Appreciation Day
The Army and Air Force Exchange Service and the Defense Commissary Agency will be sponsoring a Customer Appreciation Day on Nov. 7. They will have sales and giveaways throughout the day at all AAFES locations and at the commissary.

Operation Warm Heart
The holiday season is fast approaching and it is time to survey your Airman for those who may be in need of a little extra help at Thanksgiving. Operation Warm Heart requests need to be sent to Master Sgt. Daniel Dodd. Baskets will be distributed on Nov. 16. Please keep in mind that these are intended for Airmen of any rank with dependants and a legitimate need for assistance. Please forward names, family size and a brief description as to their situation to Sergeant Dodd no later than Nov. 9. by calling 247-8020 or 247-8325.

Military Appreciation Night
The Portland Trail Blazers will be honoring soldiers who have returned from the Middle East on the court at halftime during Military Appreciation Night Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The costs to attend this game start at $10. For more information contact Phil Horn at 503-963-3965.

National Anthem auditions
National Anthem auditions are going to be held Nov. 13 at the Deel Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information call 247-2287.

Volunteer sexual assault victim advocates needed
The next training session for volunteer sexual assault victim advocates is Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Post Office (lower level.) Volunteers provide crisis intervention, referral and ongoing support for sexual assault victims. For information or to sign up for training, call 247-444 or email Fairchild SAPR.

Turkey Bowl at the FunSpot
The FunSpot will host a Turkey Bowl Nov. 1-16 Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bowl a game during any open bowling time and the top five scores will receive a turkey at the end of the competition. Call the FunSpot at 247-2422 for more information.

Airman's Attic donations
Due to building renovations, the Airman's Attic is unable to accept donations through Nov. 21, as they will be unable to store them during this time. The Airman's Attic will remain open to serve you, but may experience some closures due to the construction. Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated.

Thanksgiving at the dining facilities
Fairchild's leadership will be serving Thanksgiving meals to all military, retirees and families Nov. 22. Lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Call M'Liss Bush at 247-5484 to reserve a time.

Fall Education Fair
There will be a Fall Education Fair at the base Education Center and Library Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair is open to military personnel and civilians and will include a Troops to Teachers briefing from 8 to 9 a.m. and a Montgomery GI Bill and VA briefing from 10 to 11 a.m. Both briefings will be held in Room 113. Various educational representatives from the local community and beyond will be present.

Club Fairchild membership drive
Club Fairchild is holding a membership drive through Dec. 31. Squadrons will receive credit for each new squadron member, military or civilian, who signs up at the Club Fairchild cash cage. The three squadrons with the highest percentages of new members during the drive receive a $300, a $200 and a $100 voucher respectively for a squadron function held at Club Fairchild.

Fitness Center Locker Policy Change
The Fitness Center will conduct a locker change. All locks must be removed by Dec. 31. Contact the Fitness Center at 247-2791 for additional information.

Holiday party reservations
Services is standing by for holiday party reservations. There are a variety of venues, dates and options for holiday parties at Club Fairchild, the Final Point, 247-2616; Funspot, 247-2422; and the Aquatic Center, 247-2242. Family and kids' parties are welcome.

Ski Blow Out
The Outdoor Recreation Connection has started its winter ski blowout sale. Used adult and junior skis and bindings from $75 to $100 will be available. Buy your winter skis while supplies last. Call 247-2511 for details.

Pass and Registration section move
The 92nd Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration office has moved to Bldg. 4325, located inside the base perimeter next to the main gate. The parking lot entrance is across the street from the chapel. The new issue point is the issue point for all Security Forces-issued identification, including restricted area badges, contractor IDs and Geneva Convention cards for medical personnel. The office is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., and closed holidays.

The Visitor Center is still located at the entry screening facility outside the base perimeter. The center is the issue point for visitor passes, vehicle passes, and vehicle registration and decals.

AADD looking for volunteers
Airman Against Drunk Driving is looking for volunteers to fill treasurer and secretary positions. The treasurer is responsible for tracking and settling all debts and assets, and the secretary is responsible for scheduling meeting and publishing meeting minutes. Email Chief Master Sgt. Green Plate Lunch Special at Club Fairchild
There will be a green plate lunch special at Club Fairchild. It is a new, lighter lunch option that includes unlimited soup, salad and beverages. The option will be available Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost will be $5.95 for members and $7.95 non-members.

Cooking classes at the HAWC
Fresh and healthy cooking classes are held at the Health and Wellness Center on the first and third Fridays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn how to use fresh foods to make healthy, great tasting food for you and your family. Classes are taught by a registered dietitian using seasonal items to help you save money on your grocery bill and prepare great tasting nutritious food. Undergraduate Flying Training
The next Undergraduate Flying Training selection board will convene at the Air Force Personnel Center Jan. 8. This selection board will review active duty applications for selection to pilot, CSO and air battle manager training. Those officers with a date of birth after April 1, 1978, and a TFCSD after April 1, 2003, who meet all other eligibility criteria, will be eligible to apply for UFT. Applicants must send the completed application postmarked by Nov. 26 to:

Applicants are responsible for advising commanders and supervisors providing AF Form 215 comments of the application deadline. Applications with incomplete or missing data may not be processed. All applicants need to complete the Air Force Officer Qualification Test. In addition, pilot applicants must complete the Test of Basic Aviation Skills. Education Briefs

Education Opportunities Galore

Park University
-Park University's Fairchild Campus Center will be offering the Writing Competency Test Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27; and Dec. 4. Students should sign up at least two terms prior to taking EN306/CJ441/CJ450. A passing WCT score is a prerequisite to register for EN306/CJ441/CJ450 and also a graduation requirement. The WCT results will not be available until at least three weeks after test date. Failure to comply with this requirement could delay graduation because the requirement will not be waived. Call 244-2020 to schedule an appointment to take the WCT.

-Park University students receiving Pell Grants or student loans, please be aware the process of dropping a class may change your eligibility for them. If Park is required to return a portion of an amount already awarded, the student will be responsible for any balance resulting from the return of the loan or grant money. Before dropping classes, please check with Student Financial Services to determine if your loan or grant eligibility will be affected. For information call 244-2020

-All consortiums and visiting student agreements must be approved by the host institution Registrar and home institution Registrar and received in the Student Financial Services Office, Park University before the beginning of the term for which aid is being requested. If not, the consortium/visiting student agreement will not be processed. Students are also responsible for ensuring the Registrar at the host institution completes and forwards the form in a timely manner. Call 244-2020 for information.

Southern Illinois University
Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers an accelerated-format Bachelor of Science degree program at Fairchild. The program allows students to complete their major in one year, with an alternating weekend schedule. No associate degree is required to start the program, and up to 44 semester hours can be granted for work experience and technical training. Full financial assistance is available to qualified students. Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Workforce Education and Development. Classes begin Jan. 12. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University offers Bachelor and Masters Degree programs and an AMT Type 65 certificate for those seeking an FAA Airframe and Powerplant license. Courses may be completed either in class or worldwide through distance learning. Embry-Riddle's Worldwide Campus consists of more than 130 learning centers in 37 states and five countries.
